Madras University
In 11th November 1839 public petition initiative to the founding of the University of Madras. That was in January 1840 and its president, George Norton, the University Board of Directors was established. In 1854, after 14 years, the Government of India, a systematic educational policy for India and much more, this fifth founded in September 1857 the law of the Legislative Council of India University was set. University organized a model of the University of London.
University of Madras is the mother of almost all of the oldest
universities in South India. University of territorial jurisdiction is limited, but the three districts of Tamil Nadu in recent years. It is the basis for the establishment of several universities in the country and within the university. This university has a stronger and more extensive teaching and research. Madras university will use the national assessment and accreditation Council (NAAC) with five stars and was first recognized in the latest A-rating. In UGC recognized university as a potential center of excellence in the country.
The University offers educational and research programs in the four campuses of the University of Madras. The 68 Departments of study and research are 4 branches in 18 schools, each offering a postgraduate qualification in each specialty, PhD part-time and full-time to organize dissemination programs, diploma and certificate programs.
